The Triton College Visual, Performing and Communication Arts Department will stage The Robber Bridegroom, book by Alfred Uhry, at 8 p.m., April 30, May 1, 6, 7 and 8, and May 2 and 9 at 2 p.m. in the Triton College Performing Arts Center in the Robert M. Collins Center, located on the east side of Triton's main campus, 2000 Fifth Ave., River Grove.
Based on a Grimm fairytale re-imagined by Eudora Welty in 18th century Mississippi, The Robber Baron comes alive with romance, evil doings and a lively bluegrass score. The lovers are Rosamund the beautiful daughter of a rich southern planter and Jamie Lockhart, a gentleman robber. They must overcome mistaken identity, an evil stepmother and several bumbling villains - one of whom is a hostile talking head. Called one of the best secrets of Broadway, this bawdy romp will set toes tapping.
The Robber Bridegroom is directed by Kristin Gehring and presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
Tickets are $13 for students, faculty, staff and senior citizens, and $15 for the general public.
