It was a tale of two games for the Triton College softball team when they hosted South Suburban College in a makeup of a rained out doubleheader April 5 in River Grove.
Fortunately the Lady Trojans won both games by scores of 4-3 and 12-1.
Triton (11-12) did not play their best during the first game but found a way to win. Caitlin Thompson's (Argo) two-run first inning home run gave the Lady Trojans a 2-0 lead. But the Bulldogs immediately responded with two in the top of the second to even the contest.
Thompson led off the fourth with a walk and would later score to give Triton a 3-2 edge before South Suburban tied the game once again in the fifth.
However, the Lady Trojans picked up the victory in walk-off fashion with back-to-back doubles by Michelle Rago (Argo) and Genevieve Crespo (Von Steuben) to end game one.
Triton dominated the second game using an 11-run first inning in their 12-1 victory in five innings. The 11 runs were the highest single-inning total for any Lady Trojan squad during Art Kasak's seven seasons as head coach.
Triton sent 15 to the plate and had nine hits in the frame. Thompson drove in four runs and scored twice. Crespo had a pair of doubles, scored twice and had two RBI's. Morgan Dunbar (Lyons Township) was a perfect 3-for-3 with 3 RBI's. Christina Christopher (Taft), Marilie Jaime (Morton East), and Regina Filomeno (Morton West) each had RBI's for the Lady Trojans who are currently ranked second in the latest Region IV District C poll.
